(Charleston, IL) – The following public events are scheduled at Eastern Illinois University and in the Charleston community during the week of June 18-25.
Thursday, June 18
- 7:30 p.m. – Charleston Community Band Concert
- The Charleston Community Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Daum Amphitheater in Kiwanis Park, located at Harrison and Division streets in Charleston. The concert is part of the band's 49th season of free summer performances, which continue weekly through July 9.
Friday, June 19
- Juneteenth/National Freedom Day Holiday
- Eastern Illinois University will be closed in observance of Juneteenth/National Freedom Day, an official University holiday.
- 8 to 9 a.m. – Charleston Historic Preservation Commission
- The Charleston Historic Preservation Commission will meet from 8 to 9 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 520 Jackson Ave.
- 7 p.m. – The Little Mermaid Jr. Camp Performance
- The Doudna Fine Arts Center will present Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. at 7 p.m. Talented youth performers will bring Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder and other favorite characters to life in this family-friendly production.
Saturday, June 20
- 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. – Farmers Market on Courthouse Square
- Local growers and vendors will gather from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Charleston's historic downtown square.
- 8 a.m. – Mid-America Walking Weekend AVA 50th Anniversary
- Beginning at 8 a.m., walkers from across the region will participate in the American Volkssport Association Mid-America Region Conference activities in Charleston. Participants may choose from a 10-kilometer route through Charleston and the Eastern Illinois University campus or a 5-kilometer campus route highlighting historic buildings, campus landmarks and portions of the Woodall Trail. Additional activities will continue at Fox Ridge State Park.
- 11 a.m. – The Little Mermaid Jr. Camp Performance
- Performance at 11 a.m. (see description in June 19 entry).
- 2 p.m. – The Little Mermaid Jr. Camp Performance
- A second daily performance at 2 p.m. (see description in June 19 entry).
Tuesday, June 23
- 12:05 p.m. – Yoga, Summer Edition
- Faculty and staff are invited to participate in a guided yoga session from 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. in the Dance Studio of McAfee Gym. The class, led by Raven McBride, includes modifications for beginners and experienced participants and concludes with a brief meditation. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel and water.
Wednesday, June 24
- Textbook Rental Service Closed for Inventory
- The Louis M. Grado Textbook Rental Service will be closed for annual inventory beginning June 24 and continuing through June 30. During this period, business transactions cannot be conducted and the external book drop will be unavailable. Regular operations will resume at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 1.

- 8 to 9 a.m. – Charleston Tree Commission Meeting
- The Charleston Tree Commission will meet from 8 to 9 a.m. in the second-floor conference room at City Hall, 520 Jackson Ave.
- 7 p.m. – Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals & Planning
- The Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals & Planning will meet at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 520 Jackson Ave., as needed.
- 7:30 p.m. – Charleston Community Band Concert
- The Charleston Community Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Daum Amphitheater in Kiwanis Park (see description in June 18 entry).
