EIU, community partner events: June 3 through June 10, 2026

(Charleston, IL) –Eastern Illinois University invites students, employees, community members and visitors to participate in a variety of campus and community events taking place June 3-10, 2026.

  • Wednesday, June 3
    • 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. — Red Cross Babysitter Training Camp; Buzzard Hall
      Participants will gain childcare skills, emergency response knowledge and hands-on experience working with children through the American Red Cross Babysitter Training program. This week-long camp for middle school and older students provides childcare training, first aid certification and hands-on learning experiences. A special Superhero Party on the final day allows participants to practice their skills while working with children.
  • Thursday, June 4
    • 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. — Red Cross Babysitter Training Camp; Buzzard Hall
      Participants will gain childcare skills, emergency response knowledge and hands-on experience working with children through the American Red Cross Babysitter Training program. This week-long camp for middle school and older students provides childcare training, first aid certification and hands-on learning experiences.     • 7:30 p.m. — Charleston Community Band Concert; Daum Amphitheater, Kiwanis Park
      The Charleston Community Band will present an evening concert at the outdoor amphitheater.
  • Friday, June 5
    • 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. — Red Cross Babysitter Training Camp; Buzzard Hall
      Participants will gain childcare skills, emergency response knowledge and hands-on experience working with children through the American Red Cross Babysitter Training program. This week-long camp for middle school and older students provides childcare training, first aid certification and hands-on learning experiences.   • Saturday, June 6
    • 6:30 a.m. — Races for All Paces
      O'Brien Stadium, Eastern Illinois University
    • 7:30 a.m. — Farmers Market on the Courthouse Square
      Local produce and craft vendors uptown in the Charleston Square
    • 8 a.m. — Alex Russell Memorial Fishing Derby; Lake Charleston
      Honor EIU alum Alex Russell by spending a morning of fishing fun. Parents are welcome, but the child must do the fishing. Prizes awarded to all participants. Bring your own fishing pole and bait! This event is free to the public. Registration on the day of the event from 8 to 8:30 a.m. with fishing taking place from 8:30 to 10 a.m. For more details: charlestonillinois.org.
    • 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. — Red Cross Babysitter Training Camp; Buzzard Hall

    • Noon — Kids Day at County Market; County Market, Charleston
      Come and Spend the afternoon with at County Market for its first annual Kids Day. Join the County Market team in the store’s parking lot as they host a party for the kids. Games, prizes, food and fun!

    • 4 p.m. — Tourism Advisory Board Meeting; City Hall Council Chambers
  • Tuesday, June 9
    • 12:05 – 12:50 p.m. — Yoga, Summer Edition; McAfee Gym Dance Studio
      Participants are encouraged to bring a mat, towel and water for a guided yoga session featuring modifications for all experience levels and a brief closing meditation.
  • Wednesday, June 10
    • 6 p.m. — Electrical Commission Meeting; City Hall Council Chambers
