EIU, community partner events: July 11 through July 18, 2026

(Charleston, IL) – The following public events are scheduled at Eastern Illinois University and in the Charleston community during the week of July 11-18.

Saturday, July 11

Sunday, July 12

  • 11 a.m. – EIU Art Camp 2026
    • Eastern Illinois University's annual Art Camp begins at 11 a.m. Camp participants will engage in hands-on visual arts experiences led by EIU faculty and students while exploring a variety of artistic media and techniques.

Monday, July 13

  • 3 p.m. – Charleston Fire and Police Board Meeting
    • The Charleston Fire and Police Board will meet beginning at 3 p.m.

Tuesday, July 14

  • 12:05 p.m. – Yoga, Summer Edition
    • Faculty and staff are invited to participate in a guided yoga session from 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. in the Dance Studio of McAfee Gym. The class, led by Raven McBride, includes modifications for beginners and experienced participants and concludes with a brief meditation. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel and water.

Wednesday, July 15

  • 8 a.m. – Mental Health First Aid Training
    • Eastern Illinois University will host Mental Health First Aid training from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The evidence-based program teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. Those who successfully complete the training will become certified Mental Health First Aiders. Registration is required.
  • 10 a.m. – Government Telecommunications Consortium Meeting
    • Members of the Government Telecommunications Consortium (GovTC) will meet at 10 a.m. in the CECOM conference room.

Thursday, July 16

  • 7 p.m. – Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning
    • The Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning will meet at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, as needed.

Friday, July 17

  • 8 a.m. – Charleston Historic Preservation Commission
    • The Charleston Historic Preservation Commission will meet beginning at 8 a.m.

Saturday, July 18

  • 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. – Farmers Market on Courthouse Square
    • Local growers and vendors will gather from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Charleston's historic downtown square.
  • 10 a.m. – Honoring Coles County Revolutionary War Patriots
  • 1 p.m. – Voices of Freedom with Charleston Community Theatre
    • Charleston Community Theatre will present Voices of Freedom at 1 p.m. in the Lincoln Log Cabin Visitor Center Auditorium. The America 250 program features dramatic readings of historic American speeches interspersed with patriotic music.
