(Charleston, IL) – The following public events are scheduled at Eastern Illinois University and in the Charleston community during the week of August 15 through August 23, 2026.
Saturday, August 15
- 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Run for the Fallen
- The 16th Annual Illinois Run for the Fallen honors fallen service members with a noncompetitive one-mile memorial walk or run at Linder Sports Complex. Participants may complete additional miles if desired.
- 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. – Farmers Market on Courthouse Square
- Local growers and vendors will gather from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Charleston's historic downtown square.
- 3 p.m. – EIU Men's Soccer Exhibition vs. UIC
- Eastern Illinois concludes exhibition play by hosting UIC at Lakeside Field.
- 5 p.m. – EIU Volleyball Exhibition vs. Indiana State
- The Panthers host Indiana State in an exhibition match at Gardella Family Court in McAfee Gym.
Monday, August 17
- 12 p.m. – Academy Summer Picnic
- Celebrate summer with the Academy of Lifelong Learning at Brainard House. Attendees are invited for complimentary hot dogs, soda, and cookies, as well as conversation and community connection.
- 3:30 p.m. – Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting
- Members of the Charleston Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will hold their regularly scheduled meeting in City Hall Council Chambers.
Tuesday, August 18
- 12:05 p.m. – Yoga, Summer Edition
- EIU faculty and staff are invited to participate in a guided yoga session from 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. in the McAfee Gym Dance Studio. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel, and water.
- 6:30 p.m. – Charleston City Council Meeting
- Members of the Charleston City Council will hold their regularly scheduled meeting in City Hall Council Chambers.
- 7 p.m. – Summer Strings Concert
- A free Summer Strings concert will take place at First Presbyterian Church.
Thursday, August 20
- 7 p.m. – Concerts in the Park featuring Halos
- Bring a lawn chair or blanket to Kiwanis Park Daum Amphitheater for a free outdoor concert featuring Halos, sponsored by Consolidated Communications/Fidium Fiber.
Friday, August 21
- 8 a.m. – Charleston Historic Preservation Commission Meeting
- Members of the Charleston Historic Preservation Commission will meet in City Hall Council Chambers.
- 1:30 to 3 p.m. – Booth Library Welcome Party
- Students and community members are invited to explore Booth Library during Panther Quest with a scavenger hunt, "Stump the Librarian," refreshments, and prizes.
Saturday, August 22
- 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. – Farmers Market on Courthouse Square
- Local growers and vendors will gather from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Charleston's historic downtown square.
Sunday, August 23
- 10:30 a.m. – Worship Service at Christian Campus House
- Christian Campus House hosts its weekly worship and community service across from Lawson Hall on 4th Street. Christian Campus House also hosts a post-service pizza lunch for attendees beginning at noon.
- 1 to 4 p.m. – Basket Weaving Workshop
