Eastern Illinois University continues longstanding tradition of hosting Smith Walbridge Clinics

EIU hosting a number of summer camps for younger students focused on learning and leading
(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University is welcoming hundreds of music educators, students and performers from across the country as the Smith Walbridge Clinics return to campus for another summer, continuing a decades-long partnership that reflects the University's commitment to expanding educational opportunities and supporting the next generation of leaders across Illinois.
Hosted annually at EIU, the Smith Walbridge Clinics have become one of the nation's premier educational experiences for high school and collegiate marching band, drum major, color guard and music educators. Each summer, participants travel from across the United States to EIU’s Charleston, Illinois-based campus to learn from nationally recognized instructors, refine their skills and collaborate with peers who share a passion for music education, leadership and performance.
This year's clinics are underway and will continue throughout July with specialized instructional sessions including:
- July 7-10: Section Leader, Drumline & Front Ensemble, and Color Guard
- July 10-12: Student Conductor and Drill Design
- July 12-17: Drum Major Session 1
- July 17-19: Mace & Signal Baton
- July 19-24: Drum Major Session 2
For decades, Eastern has served as the home of the Smith Walbridge Clinics, providing an affordable, accessible environment where participants can develop technical skills, leadership abilities and professional connections. The partnership reflects EIU's broader mission of making high-quality educational experiences available to learners from a wide range of backgrounds, both within and beyond the traditional classroom.
