On Monday, May 11, 2026, Eastern Illinois University will conduct a scheduled test of the Alert EIU emergency notification system at approximately 5 p.m. Email alerts, text alerts, and the campus speaker system alert system are all being tested.
EIU students and employees are automatically enrolled in the Alert system through their campus email accounts and will receive an email at approximately 4:55 p.m., letting them know the test is about to begin. Because the campus speaker system cannot be limited to a specific group, a lockdown message will be broadcast across campus speakers at 5 p.m. May 11. The campus speaker message is part of the test.
Students and employees should add their current cell phone number and up to three additional mobile numbers by enrolling at the member portal site will receive both the email and text alert test messages. Anyone who has registered their cell phone numbers in the member portal by Sunday, May 9 will be included in the May 11 test.
Important:
Anyone who does not receive the initial 4:55 p.m. Alert EIU message Monday, May 11 are encouraged to visit eiu.edu/alerteiu to confirm their contact information and registration. status
Thank you for your cooperation as we test this important safety system.
