EIU to celebrate University, community connections through eventful Homecoming Week October 19 through 24

(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University encourages the entire EIU Family and interested community residents to save the dates from October 19 through October 24, 2026 to celebrate Homecoming 2026 in Charleston, Illinois. 

This year’s theme of Lights, Camera, Panthers! Will bring students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members together for a week of events centered on Panther pride, campus traditions and connections that extend across generations. From the crowning of Homecoming Royalty and student activities throughout the week to the annual parade, a new official Homecoming tailgate and the Panthers' Homecoming football game, EIU Homecoming offers opportunities to return to campus, reconnect with friends and celebrate Eastern. The week also will include community-focused activities, including a Homecoming food drive supporting the EIU Campus Food Pantry and the annual parade through Charleston.

The full list of EIU’s 2026 Homecoming schedule includes:

•  Monday, October 19 through Wednesday, October 21
  • Billy in the Schools – Charleston and Mattoon area schools. Billy Panther will visit area grade schools during Homecoming Pre-Week, bringing Panther Pride to local students.
• Monday, October 19 through Saturday, October 24
  • Homecoming Food Drive – across campus. EIU will collect food and monetary donations throughout Homecoming Week with a goal of collecting 1,000 pounds of food for the Campus Food Pantry. Donations also may be made at the Charleston County Market.
• Monday, October 19 through Saturday, October 24
  • Paint the Town Blue – Charleston community. Residents, businesses and community organizations are invited to show their Panther spirit with Homecoming decorations, stickers, window placards, yard signs and Spirit T-shirts.
• Monday, October 19
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., around campus – Billy's Kickoff "Pantherazzi"
    Students, faculty and staff are invited to wear EIU blue and join the kickoff celebration for Homecoming Week.
  • 7 p.m., Homecoming Royalty Coronation – Martin Luther King Jr. University Union Grand Ballroom. The EIU community will gather to celebrate the 2026 Homecoming Royalty and the students representing Panther spirit and tradition.
• Tuesday, October 20
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., across campus – HOCO on the Go!, The Homecoming Committee and Panther Patrol will travel around campus in golf carts, offering rides, giveaways, prizes and other surprises.
  • 6 to 8 p.m., Homecoming Lip Sync Battle: "Hollywood Hitmakers," Martin Luther King Jr. University Union Grand Ballroom. Students and registered student organizations will take the stage for a Homecoming-themed lip sync competition.
• Wednesday, October 21
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Doudna Concourse – Faculty & Staff Blue-B-Que,. EIU faculty and staff are invited to enjoy a complimentary meal along with Homecoming prizes and giveaways. Employees who bring canned goods for the Campus Food Pantry will receive additional raffle tickets.
  • 4 to 7 p.m., Library Quad – Quad Party "Pantherchella,". The Homecoming celebration continues with music, henna, airbrush crafts, food trucks and other activities.
• Thursday, October 22
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., across campus. HOCO on the Go!, The Panther Patrol returns to campus with golf cart rides, giveaways, prizes and Homecoming activities.
  • 4 to 6 p.m., Panther Marching Band Homecoming Social, Charleston House Bed & Breakfast Inn. Panther Marching Band alumni are invited to reconnect and share memories during an evening featuring food, live music and Panther spirit. Advanced registration is required.
  • 7 to 10 p.m., Martin Luther King Jr. University Union University Ballroom. Panther Gala, Students can celebrate Homecoming at a Met Gala-inspired dance featuring a blue-carpet theme, style and Panther spirit.
• Friday, October 23
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., University-Wide Volunteer Luncheon, Martin Luther King Jr. University Union University Ballroom. Alumni, volunteers, donors and campus leaders will gather for a program focused on volunteer leadership and the future of higher education. Registration is required
  • 6 p.m., Martin Luther King Jr. University Union Grand Ballroom. University Awards Reception & Dinner – EIU will recognize recipients of the Alumni Awards, Heritage Society and Burnham and Nancy Neal Outstanding Philanthropist Award. The event also will celebrate the Class of 1976 during its 50th Reunion and induction into the Livingston C. Lord Society. Registration is required.
  • 7 to 8:30 p.m. – O'Brien Stadium Homecoming Pep Rally. Panthers will gather to celebrate Homecoming and build excitement for Saturday's parade and football game.
• Saturday, October 24
  • 6:30 to 10 a.m., Rotary Pancake Breakfast – The Charleston Rotary Club will serve its annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast during the morning's Homecoming festivities. Proceeds benefit local charities. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 11 and younger.
  • 9 a.m., Annual 2.5K Run/Walk, 7th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Participants can run or walk around the Charleston Square as part of the Homecoming celebration. The event is not timed, and prizes will be awarded randomly based on bib numbers. Proceeds from this event will support Christmas in the Heart of Charleston.
  • 9:30 a.m., 7th Street and Lincoln Avenue – Homecoming Parade. One of EIU and Charleston's annual traditions returns with campus and community entries, decorated vehicles, bands, banners, floats and a Parade Grand Marshal. 
  • 11 a.m., O'Brien Field Tailgate Area – Billy's Backyard. EIU's new official Homecoming tailgate will bring alumni, students, families and friends together before kickoff with food, beverages, games and live music from Shadoobee, a funk-rock band formed by EIU alumni in the late 1980s. Tailgating spaces are available through EIU Athletics.
  • 2 p.m., O'Brien Field – EIU Homecoming Football Game vs. Southeast Missouri State. The weeklong celebration concludes as the Panthers take on Southeast Missouri State in the 2026 Homecoming game.
