Why Study Accounting at EIU?

  • Our program holds AACSB Specialized Accounting Accreditation, so you graduate with a credential employers and grad schools recognize and trust.
  • 95% of our Accountancy graduates land jobs or continue their education right after graduation.
  • From day one, coursework is designed to set you up to pass the CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFE exams.
  • Public accounting, corporate finance at companies like Caterpillar and State Farm, or government and nonprofit work — an EIU accounting degree opens every door.
  • You'll graduate with sharp analytical thinking, strong ethics, tech fluency, and communication skills that make you a leader from your first day on the job.
"I didn't expect to get real experience this early, but by my sophomore year I was already working on projects that felt like actual marketing work. It made me feel confident that I'm ready for what comes next."

Hands-On Experience

  • Earn academic credit through internships with real companies, applying what you learn in the classroom to real accounting work.
  • Combine an internship, a finance minor, and graduate-level coursework to knock out Illinois's 150-hour CPA requirement while you're still at EIU.
  • The Student Accounting Society connects you with career professionals, faculty, and fellow students — plus insight into Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting honor society.
  • Through service-learning projects, you'll give back to the local community while building real experience for your resume.
  • Two annual Career and Internship Fairs put you directly in front of the companies that hire EIU accounting grads.
