This is a dedicated major for producing television, video, and film and your direct path to working in this thriving industry. You will experience the entire production process (development, production / filming, post-production) in applied courses taught by professors who are television producers and filmmakers themselves, and use professional production equipment in a collaborative environment to create television and film.

Hands-On Experience

  • Create from your first semester. Start producing television, video and film right away, then build your skills through advanced courses and rotating production topics.
  • Work with professional equipment. Gain experience with cinema cameras, television production tools and other industry-standard technology.
  • Earn credit through real production work. Opportunities with ESPN+, WEIU-TV, HitMix WEIU-FM, University Marketing and the Television & Video Lab can count toward your degree.
  • Build your reel as you learn. Create polished projects with guidance and feedback from faculty with professional experience in film, television, broadcasting and digital media.
  • Share your work with real audiences. Students can screen projects, submit work to film festivals and pursue television distribution opportunities.

What You'll Learn

Television and video production blends creative storytelling with the technical skills needed to bring an idea to life. At EIU, you’ll learn how to develop concepts, shape stories, operate professional production equipment, direct, shoot, edit and produce work for a range of formats and audiences. Your coursework will take you across narrative film, episodic television, promotional video, live broadcasts and other forms of media production.
