"I have spent my whole life in a small and rural community with little opportunity to experience lifestyles unreflective of the town in which I was raised. ... To supplement some areas that might have been lacking in my music education, my parents enrolled me in music lessons at an early age and I was even a part of Eastern's community music program. ... Throughout junior high and high school, I auditioned and was selected to play in ILMEA bands and choirs held at Eastern."
