EIU Bands Placement Audition and Registration Information
Auditions
The Wind Symphony and Concert Band are the two concert bands on campus that require an audition. Ensemble placement auditions for fall 2022 will be handled via video submission. More details on the specifics of how to make and submit the video recording are forthcoming. Ensemble audition excerpts and instructions will be made available online (see below) by July 1st. Please check back on or after that date to print the excerpts for your instrument.
Once available, please practice the excerpts diligently, and be prepared to record your audition the week BEFORE classes begin. Enrollment
Students receive academic credit for participation in the bands. All performers must enroll in the course for the ensemble to which they are assigned. Students receive one hour of academic credit for each semester of participation. Most degree programs will accept band credit as a "free elective." We strongly encourage you to check with your department's academic advisers for details.
Applied Studies
Students may also study privately for academic credit. Applied study is available for all instruments through the Department of Music. Students must have professor approval to enroll in private lessons. For more information please contact the Department of Music at:
