The Eastern Illinois University Concert Band consists of 50-60 players of varying ability levels. Concert Band is an auditioned ensemble and usually comprises approximately 3/4 music majors and 1/4 non-music majors who simply love to play their instruments and are willing to commit to an hour of individual practice time per week. The Concert Band is designed to foster a collaborative environment and high quality musical experiences for all members who audition and are accepted into the ensemble. The group performs traditional standard and contemporary band repertoire in 2-3 concerts per semester in the Dvorak Concert Hall on campus.
Short audition excerpts for acceptance into the ensemble are posted at the bottom of this page. Just click on your instrument to download a pdf of the music. Additionally, below you will find links to a reference recording of the pieces included on the audition. Your audition excerpts will consist of 2 of the 4 piece possibilities below. These recordings should be helpful in allowing you to get a feel for the tempo, style, and character of these audition excerpts. Auditions for fall 2020 will be completed via video submission in the week prior to the start of classes. More information on the specifics of making this happen will be released soon.
