EIU Office of Financial Aid

Work on Campus

Federal Work Study

  • Federal Work Study funding is limited and is offered based on FAFSA information and financial need on a first-come first-served basis.
  • Students are paid minimum wage biweekly. FWS earnings are paid directly to the student and are not applied to a student’s billing.
  • Upon acceptance of a Federal Work Study offer, the student will be asked to complete additional paperwork in order to place you in a work position.
  • Students typically work 6-8 hours a week and may not work during scheduled class hours.
  • FWS students are authorized to work a combined total of 42 hours per pay period (from all campus employment) when the University is in session. When the University is not in session, student employees may work up to 37.5 hour per week provided the student does not displace certified civil service employees. For example: Spring Break and Thanksgiving Break. International students see International Student requirements.
  • Questions regarding work study may be sent to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships - Attn: Alma Ayers.

Graduate Assistantships

  • The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships typically employs two Graduate Assistants on a rotating basis with one new position open every year. We ask that our graduate assistants commit to a 2 year position if possible.
  • Our office participates in the College Student Affairs (CSA Days) interview process and also accepts applications from other programs.
  • We accept and review applications each Spring for the following Summer/Fall semesters. Applicants may submit a cover letter and resume to finaid@eiu.edu.
  • Questions regarding the position may be sent to Attn: Mallorie Fonseca.
  • Students with strong customer service, advising, and counseling skills are preferred. Our graduate assistants advise students on the financial aid process and scholarships. They present information across campus and take on special projects as pertain to their skills and interests. They serve our office and students as a first point of contact along with our full time advising staff.
  • More information on assistantships can be found on the Graduate School page: https://www.eiu.edu/graduate/students_assistantships.php
