Assistant Professor of Music Technology and Composition

The Eastern Illinois University Department of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music Technology and Composition. This appointment will begin in August 2023.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching music technology courses, teaching and maintaining the EIU electronic music studio, teaching applied composition and composition courses, leading weekly studio class, recruiting composition and music technology students, and provide leadership in the Bachelor of Arts in Audio Recording Technology program. Other duties may include upper-level music theory (including orchestration and analysis).

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in music technology and/or composition is required, Doctorate or ABD A terminal degree is required for tenure and promotion.
• Must be an accomplished teacher and composer with demonstrable success working with
• Experience teaching computer music/sound, composition, and music
• Experience and expertise in industry-standard software, such as Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton Live, MAX,
• Knowledge of traditional sound design principles and theory, contemporary issues, and emerging platforms in sonic
• Evidence of creative activity or scholarship in audio, such as recording music, sound design for film, building digital instruments,
• An engaging teaching manner and outstanding interpersonal skills for student recruitment are
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence is

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with 4 or more years of teaching undergraduates, 2 years teaching graduate students.
