Function of the Position

The Leadership & Engagement Specialist aids in the planning and execution of programs and initiatives within the Office of Leadership & Engagement, reporting to the Director and Associate Director of the Office of Leadership & Engagement. Duties and responsibilities span across civic engagement and volunteerism, leadership development programming, student engagement, and supporting the fraternity and sorority life community, specifically the Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Council. The Leadership & Engagement Specialist is a 12-month position. This position requires evening and weekend commitments. The incumbent advises and interact with students 75% of their time.

Description of Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assistance with hiring, orientation, training, and supervision of graduate assistant and student worker staff for the Office of Leadership and Engagement as directed.
  2. Assist in planning and implementation of one-time service opportunities and Service to Go opportunities as directed.
  3. Provide support to large-scale annual service days as directed, which may include planning, execution, and evaluation.
  4. Manage weekly volunteers for the Charleston Food Pantry, as directed.
  5. Administer, update, and manage online volunteer registration system (Volunteer Now), assessment, and online logging/tracking of
  6. Assist in the daily logistics and operations of the EIU Campus Food Pantry.
  7. Assist the Associate Director in increasing service learning experiences. i.e Dale Carnegie training, etc.
  8. Serve as primary advisor to the Interfraternity Council advising executive officers and delegates to IFC, attending IFC meetings (executive & general body meetings). Understand policies and procedures governing IFC and ensure they are appropriately observed. Ensure strong financial practices, serve as co-signer and fiscal agent on IFC account. Provide support to IFC in program planning and execution. Oversee IFC recruitment and retention efforts. This responsibility is shared with a Graduate Assistant.
  9. Assist in supervision of student leaders during the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) conference.
  10. Assist in programming of events for the fraternity and sorority life community.
  11. Assist with creation and delivery of leadership development programming, including evaluation and assessment of programming efforts, as directed.
  12. Work collaboratively with partners across the Division of Student Affairs, EIU, and the greater Charleston community, as needed.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Computer competency to include Microsoft
  3. Membership in a college/university student
  4. Ability to work weekends and evenings.
  5. Must possess a valid Driver’s
  6. Excellent oral and written communication
  7. Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced
  8. Ability to work
  9. Experienced problem-solver.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Leadership experience in a college/university student
  2. Membership in a Greek Letter Organization, specifically in the governing councils of Interfraternity Council (IFC) or Panhellenic (PHC).

The Civil Service Examination for this classification is a credentials assessment. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from qualified applicants. Upon successful selection of a candidate, all scores will be voided from this Program Assistant – Leadership & Engagement Specialist register.
