Dr. Rebecca R Johnson

Rebecca Johnson has been the flute instructor at Eastern Illinois University since 2007. An active member of the musical community, Dr. Johnson is the second flutist of the chamber orchestra Sinfonia da Camera. She is a frequent recitalist and masterclass clinician at universities, high schools, and music camps throughout the Midwest, as well as at EIU. Internationally, she was honored to perform and teach at the International Flute Convention in Quito, Ecuador, annually since 2009. She has been involved in the National Flute Association in several capacities, first as the Assistant Program Chair for the 2008 convention, which was held in Kansas City, Missouri. She is currently serving the organization in a five-year term as the Exhibitor Concert and Showcase Coordinator. She also was invited to perform at the association’s national convention in 2010 and 2011.
Dr. Johnson is a past Rotary International Ambassadorial scholar and a past winner of the University of Louisville Concerto Competition, the Des Moines Symphony Young Artists Competition, the University of Northern Iowa Concerto Competition, and the Fort Dodge Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition. She has participated in classes and festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Rome Festival Orchestra, and the National Festival Orchestra. In the summer of 2007, she had the honor of appearing as a finalist in two of the National Flute Association's competitions at its convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dr. Johnson earned a Doctor of Music Arts degree in flute performance at the University of Illinois, where she was awarded a University Fellowship to support her study. She holds degrees from the University of Louisville, the Royal Northern College of Music, and the University of Northern Iowa. In addition to the Postgraduate Diploma in Performance she earned while at the Royal Northern, she was awarded the prestigious Professional Performance Diploma as a part of Ensemble 23.2, an international woodwind quintet. Rebecca's teachers have included Jonathan Keeble, Kathleen Karr, Donald Gottlieb, Peter Lloyd, Liisa Ruoho, Angeleita Floyd and Dianne Aboud.
