Transfer Information

Transferring Credits from Other Schools

Students transferring coursework in from other schools may now use MyCreditsTransfer/Transferology to determine how those courses will transfer to Eastern Illinois University. Instructions on how to use Transferology can be found here.

Information on transferring coursework may also be found through the iTransfer website.

Acceptance of Associate in Arts (A.A.)
or Associate in Science (A.S.) Degrees

If you are transferring to Eastern Illinois University without an Associate in Arts (A.A.), an Associate in Science (A.S.), or an Associate in Science and Arts (A.S.A.) degree from an Illinois community college, Lincoln College or Springfield College, or the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) General Education Core Curriculum (GECC), you will have to complete Eastern's general education requirements.

Fall 2000 and Previous Catalogs

You have a 15-semester hour "grace period" to complete your A.A., A.S., A.S.A. degree, or the IAI GECC. Eastern will still consider your lower-level general education complete if:

  1. Your initial enrollment at Eastern was Summer 1982 or after.
  2. Your total semester hours earned at Eastern do notexceed 15.
    • Re-admit Students — This means no more than 15 hours of an A.A. A.S., A.S.A. degree or the IAI GECC may be represented by previous EIU credit.
    • New Students — This means you must complete your A.A.,A.S., A.S.A. degree or the IAI GECC before you earn more than 15 hours at Eastern.
  3. Your cumulative grade point average at Eastern must be 2.00 or higher
  4. Your last work resulting in completion of an A.A., A.S., A.S.A. degree or IAI GECC must be earned at an institution other than EIU or concurrently with course work at Eastern.

To sum it up...

You cannot use EIU credits as the last credits for a transfer agreement, but you can attend EIU and another college at the same time. If you take the last credit towards your transfer agreement at an institution other than Eastern, EIU will waive your lower-level general education requirements as long as you have NOT earned more than 15 semester hours at Eastern Illinois University.

Fall 2001 and Subsequent Catalogs

There is no hour limit in which to complete a transfer agreement. Students transfering without the A.A., A.S., A.S.A. degree, or the IAI GECC may use Eastern credit to transfer back to complete an agreement. A student may also return to a parent institution to finish a transfer agreement with no time or hour limit.

Eastern Illinois University will recognize the agreement and consider all lower-level general education Requirements complete as long as:

  1. Your initial enrollment at Eastern was Summer 1982 or after.
  2. Your cumulative grade point average at Eastern is 2.00 or higher.
