BILITERACY

EIU accepts the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy.

A student who has received the State Seal of Biliteracy will receive a total of 8 credits (lower division). This is the equivalent of first semester (4 credits) and second semester (4 credits) of language study at EIU.

The student must request this credit within three years of graduating high school.  The request should be made in person at the Office of the Registrar, 1220 Old Main, or by e-mail from student’s EIU address and include their Enumber.  Documentation will be required.

Students who have received the State Seal of Biliteracy and would like to continue their language study at EIU should contact the Department of World Languages and Culture (Christiane Eydt-Beebe, Chair, ckeydt@eiu.edu) for placement advice.
