Workshop: Using Small Teaching: Faculty Reading Groups Opening Session
Thursday, 06 February, 2020 @ 11:30 AM - 12:15 PM |
Facilitator: Dr. Newton Key
Location: 1220 Booth Library
This workshop presents a few ideas from Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning by James Lang, before forming reading group(s) to meet occasionally the rest of the semester. We began several groups to discuss the first part of the book last year. This Spring we will form new reading group(s) to discuss the remaining chapters (or the book as a whole – each group decides its own pace). For an example of Lang’s small/big changes, James M. Lang, “Small Changes in Teaching: The Last 5 Minutes of Class,” The Chronicle of Higher Education, March 7, 2016, http://www.chronicle.com/article/Small-Changes-in-Teaching-The/235583. If you cannot attend this workshop but want to participate, or if you need a copy of the work, contact the FDIC now @ firstname.lastname@example.org.
