Safe Zones are areas on and around campus where supportive people provide information and work toward the elimination of myths, misconceptions, and stereotypes regarding LGBTQA+ community.

    The A stands for Asexual

This one-hour brown bag focuses on asexuality. Briefly, an asexual person is someone who does not experience sexual attraction. The workshop will cover questions, such as

    • What does it mean to be asexual and/or aromantic? How do individuals experience asexuality different from one another?
    • What makes asexuality a distinct identity rather than a behavior (such as celibacy) or medical disorder?
    • How does asexuality overlap with and differ from other identities within the Gender and Sexual Diversity (GSD) community?
    • What specific challenges and prejudices might asexual people face in a society that assumes all people are sexual?
    • How can we support asexual and aromantic students on Eastern’s campus?

Dr. Skocy will share information about what you should be doing now to prepare for finding your first teaching position.  He will discuss things you should do early in your teacher education program as well as application and interview tips.  In addition to Dr. Skocy’s presentation, Career Services will spend a few minutes sharing what you should do to make the most out of the Education Job Fair. I encourage you to attend this presentation regardless of what year you are in school.

There will be a short panel presentation by a few district administrators representative of the range of districts participating in the Education Job Fair (including Out-of-State Districts).  These administrators will give participants advice on how to approach the following day’s job fair.  Following the panel presentation there will be time for you to meet district representatives from many of the districts participating in the job fair and ask them questions prior to the job fair.  Dress for the event is business casual (similar to what you would wear to practicum).  This is a great opportunity to network before the job fair.  Reservations for this event are encouraged but not required.  Register by going to https://eiu-csm.symplicity.com/students
