Narcotics Count (in points)

It is thought that narcotics sales drive up other crime activities in a neighborhood. Therefore, we will look at the proportion of narcotics crimes among all crimes in each neighborhood. The first step is to find the number of narcotics crime from the total crime layer. This is done by filtering:

  • Right click on the crime layer >>> select filter
  • Double click on Primary De and select the equality sign in the operators box
  • Select All in the values box and double click on Narcotics
  • Click OK and you have the filtered layer that shows the number of Narcotics in points

Narcotics Count per Neighborhood

Once the crime data has been filtered to include only Narcotics crimes, the next step is to count the number of narcotics crimes in each district.

Spatial join the filtered crime layer (Narcotic count) to the Neighborhoods.

  • Repeat the earlier spatial join steps

In the next section, you'll use field calculations to determine narcotics crime rates.
