GENERAL PARKING INFORMATION
Parking Services Division Office
The Parking Services Division of the UPD is located in the University Police Department building at 7th St. and Grant Ave., across from the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Closed daily from 12 to 1 p.m.)

Permits (including visitor permits) and citation payments are available online 24/7
Enforcement
- Parking regulations are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year round
- Student lots and select staff lots may be used without a permit on weekends (check lot entrance signs for exceptions)
- MLK Jr. Union metered spaces are enforced at all times. Meter payment is hourly using Text-to-Pay via the posted QR code
Parking Permit Cost
2026-2027 Academic Year:
- Upperclass Student: $120 annually or $60 per semester
- An upperclass student is any student with 60+ credit hours OR is age 21+ OR is a graduate student
- $3 shipping fee for mailed permits
- Underclass Student: $220 annually or $110 per semester
- An underclass student is any student with 59 or fewer credit hours OR is under age 21
- $3 shipping fee for mailed permits
- Faculty/Staff: $120 per year or $60 per semester
- Any full or part-time employee of Eastern Illinois University
- Permits will be delivered via campus mail
- Visitors: $2 for 1-day pass
Citations & Fines
- Most violations: $40
- Accessible parking violations: $250
Unpaid Citations
- Transferred to the Business Office at the end of each semester
- Unpaid citations and fines will prevent class registration and transcript release
- Must be paid before purchasing a parking permit
- Valid citations are not dismissed. Each person is eligible for one lifetime courtesy dismissal. To request dismissal or appeal, visit Parking Services or follow the instructions on the back of your citation

Lost or Stolen Permits
- Report to the University Police Department to file a report or receive a temporary permit
- You are responsible for tickets issued before the report
- Replacement permit fee: $20

Switching Vehicles or Temporary Vehicles
- Move your current decal to the lower inside corner of the passenger side windshield
- Email parking@eiu.edu with the updated vehicle information
- Temporary permits (up to 2 weeks) are available at Parking Services
Temporary Accommodations or Accessible Parking
- EIU students with documented medical needs can receive an upgrade to park in faculty/staff lots, which are generally much closer to academic buildings than student lots.
- Temporary medical conditions (i.e., a condition like broken limbs or short-term illnesses which are expected to last less than one semester) are eligible to park in faculty/staff lots but must have a valid student permit.
- You can take a doctor's note directly to the Eastern Illinois University Police and Parking Services Office.

- Anyone parking on campus that has a current accessible parking placard are eligible to park without displaying a valid permit.
Important Reminder
A permit allows you to park in designated campus lots but does not guarantee a space in your preferred lot. You may need to park nearby and walk to your destination.
