Assistant Professor of Accounting

Closes: Open Until Filled Lumpkin College of Business & TechnologySchool of Business

The School of Business at Eastern Illinois University invites applications for a full‑time, nine‑month, tenure‑track position in accounting at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to the School’s mission through excellence in teaching, research, and service.

Candidates with research and teaching interests in all areas of accounting will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the ability and willingness to teach across accounting areas (e.g., financial accounting, accounting information systems, managerial accounting, auditing, and taxation) and to adapt as departmental needs evolve. We especially seek candidates who already have experience using AI to supplement teaching and to engage students. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses delivered in face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to maintain a sustainable research program that generates scholarly output consistent with the missions of the School of Business and the Accountancy Program. An established or emerging record of publication in peer‑reviewed journals is required. While traditional academic research is valued, applied and pedagogical research are also encouraged.

The position also involves service to the School of Business and the University. A demonstrated passion for teaching, student mentoring, and overall student career development is highly valued.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or DBA in Accounting from an AACSB‑accredited accounting doctoral program with a strong record of research training in accounting. Candidates who are ABD and close to completion will be considered. Evidence of strong instructional effectiveness and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, or other relevant designations are a plus. Business experience and experience teaching online are also desirable, particularly when accompanied by a strong grounding in U.S. GAAP, demonstrated fluency with the FASB Accounting Standards Codification, and familiarity with related U.S. regulatory and reporting standards.
