Assistant Professor of Costume Design

Eastern Illinois University’s Department of Theatre invites applicants to join our faculty as an Assistant Professor of Costume Design. Qualified candidates will be expected to have expertise in one or more secondary areas such as Lighting, Scenery, and/or Production/Stage Management. The successful candidate will contribute to our Theatre program by fostering a creative and inclusive learning environment that provides pre-professional training for the next generation of theatre professionals.

Responsibilities encompass designing departmental productions, managing the costume shop, mentoring student designers, and collegial collaboration with guest designers and faculty artists. Candidates will also be expected to teach courses related to Costume Design, as well as additional teaching assignments that may cover other areas of technical theatre and Introduction to Theatre or Experiencing the Arts.

Furthermore, this role involves active participation in school, college, and university- level committees, as well as participating in recruitment efforts and fulfilling assigned departmental tasks.

As a Unit A (tenure-track) position, the successful applicant is expected to demonstrate commitment to creative practice through an ongoing and sustained professional theatrical practice.

About the Department: The Department of Theatre is located in the Doudna Fine Arts Center, home to the School of the Arts.

The Department of Theatre is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) and offers a BA in Theatre, with concentrations in Performance, Musical Theatre, Design and Technology, and Dramatic Writing.
