Program Director – Director of Accessibility & Accommodation                                                                                                   

Function of Position:

The Director of Accessibility & Accommodation, reports to the Dean of Student Success and serves as the administrator over services for students with disabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide administrative direction in the provision of services and resources to assure equal access in the instructional environment for students with disabilities;
  2. Evaluate documentation provided by the student and determine eligibility and accommodations;
  3. Establish annual departmental goals and facilitate working toward the accomplishment of those goals;
  4. Oversee the collection of data regarding the office and provide an annual report to the Dean of Student Success;
  5. Support faculty and staff in their efforts to provide accommodations to students with disabilities;
  6. Maintain relationships and serve as liaison with public and private agencies designed to support persons with disabilities;
  7. Serve as an advocate for persons with disabilities;
  8. Supervise Accessibility & Accommodation staff;
  9. Stay abreast of legal mandates and changes in the current best practices in higher education relating to the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act;
  10. Represent SDS on applicable University committees; and
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean, Student Success.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Ability (KSAs)

  1. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  2. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Must be open-minded, non-judgmental, and able to interact with and advocate for diverse groups.
  3. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  4. Skill in oral and written communication
  5. Ability to work effectively with staff, students, the public, and outside constituency groups
  6. Ability to organize and multi-task
  7. Ability to supervise and knowledge of administrative concepts and methods
  8. Ability to utilize various computer software packages
  9. Ability to work independently and exercise judgement in order to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems
  10. Ability to motivate, engage, and encourage students to seek guidance and participate in the program

The Civil Service Examination for this classification is a credentials assessment. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from qualified applicants. Upon successful selection of a candidate, all scores will be voided from this register.
