The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Eastern Illinois University invites community members, academics, and professionals to share their expertise by leading courses for the Spring 2024 semester, running from January 8th to May 12th. Our sessions, typically ranging from one to five classes, span diverse interest areas and contribute to enriching the local community.
The Academy has hosted a wide variety of popular programs that reflect the diversity of learning opportunities available. These have included Larkfield Glass: The Art of Glassblowing, where participants gained firsthand insight into this delicate craft, Psychology of a Serial Killer, an exploration of the psychological factors behind criminal behavior, and Intro to Nature Journaling, which encouraged participants to connect with the natural world. This range highlights the Academy’s commitment to fostering lifelong learning in all its forms.
We welcome instructors with a passion for sharing knowledge, whether through personal experiences such as leading an art workshop, academic exploration in fields like media literacy or history, or professional insights on topics like business strategies or wellness practices. While direct sales or promotions are not permitted during sessions, instructors can showcase their expertise and attract participants’ interest in their business or organization through the inherent value of their teaching.
“Our mission at the Academy of Lifelong Learning is to build a strong, engaged community through shared knowledge,” said Daniel Douglas, Program Coordinator. “We encourage individuals from all backgrounds to consider leading a session and making a positive impact in the community.”
Interested individuals are invited to submit their applications by November 15, 2024, at go.eiu.edu/TeachOthers. The form includes all the details necessary to plan and facilitate successful sessions.
Additionally, our community partners from other non-profit organizations are encouraged to contact us with low or no-cost opportunities to feature in the community partner section of our program guide, fostering broader collaboration.
