How Communication Creates Community Change: Guest Speaker on Friday, Oct. 23, at 1 pm   —  October 23, 2026

Join us for a special guest speaker session with Alexander Benishek, Economic & Community Development Director and Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Mattoon.   Alexander will share his career journey and discuss how strategic communication skills can be applied to create positive change in communities and organizations. He will talk about what his work looks like day to day, the skills professionals need to succeed, and practical advice for students preparing for internships and future careers.   Whether you are interested in public relations, community development, government, nonprofit work, advocacy, or public service, this is a great opportunity to hear directly from a local professional, ask questions, and explore different career possibilities.   The talk will take place Friday, Oct. 23, from 1 to 1:50 p.m. in Buzzard Hall 2442.   All interested students are welcome!   The talk is part of Careers in Public Relations Series. The Public Relations major at EIU prepares students for careers in a growing profession that plays a vital role in any sector or industry. It is one of only a few designated public relations majors in Illinois and offers a hands-on curriculum focused on career-readiness.
