Freshmen

We are so excited to have you!  With 10 residence halls for freshmen to choose from, you're sure to find the perfect fit as you transition to campus.

After applying for a room in the residence halls, you will have the opportunity to request a specific hall and roommate.  Although we do our best to accommodate your first preference, physical space and prior assignments of returning students can be limiting factors in our ability to meet every student’s first request.

To apply for housing, simply submit a housing application and pay a non-refundable fee of $50.00 to ensure assignment to a room in a residence hall.  Once you complete this step, your application will be on file permanently.

TRANSFER

Welcome to EIU! Transfer students can live in any of our residential communities on campus. Many choose Stevenson Hall or University Court Apartments. While not all students living in these areas are transfer students, these areas offer the opportunity to live in a connected community which will support your academic success and transition into campus life.

Stevenson Hall is a co-ed, suite-style facility. This building is for students with 60 completed credit hours or 21 years of age. Live with other transfer students who are adjusting to EIU and participating in events created specifically for transfer students!

University Court Apartments are fully furnished, affordable, and convenient apartments only steps from campus. Billing is done through your student account, making University Court financial aid friendly.

CURRENT

If you’d like to continue your stay with us on campus and reap the benefits of rewards, proximity, and convenience, check out the recontracting/preference forms!  They are made available to students in mid-February via your PAWS account.

As a current student, you also have the option of completing an Early Bird Contract for the following academic year.  Early Bird contracting offers you additional, exciting incentives for completing your contract during the fall semester.

GRADUATE

At EIU, we offer two primary housing options for graduate students that meet your wants and needs!

University Court combines the benefits of on-campus living with the comfort of apartment living.  Apartments have one to two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen/dining area. Each apartment is furnished and can accommodate one to four students.

Billing is done through your student account, making University Court financial aid friendly.  Looking for a roommate?  The RoomSync app can help!

University Apartments provide reasonably priced housing for families, graduate students, and students 25 years of age or older.  All utilities including local television service, internet (WiFi) service, cable television service, water, gas, electric, and trash removal are included in rent.

INTERNATIONAL

Most international students choose to stay in Lincoln-Stevenson-Douglas Halls, Thomas Hall, University Court, or University Apartments since these facilities will provide accommodations during break periods.  University Court and University Apartments allow you to stay over break, free of charge.  Students who choose to stay in Lincoln, Stevenson, Douglas, or Thomas over the break periods incur a charge of $85.00 per week. If break housing is not a requirement, you my choose to live in any of our 11 residence halls.

Keep in mind, the Office of International Students and Scholars will be your primary contact for all important information regarding your admission and arrival at EIU.
