COVID-19 Updates & Announcements
On May 31, President Glassman passionately affirmed Eastern Illinois University’s commitment “to the highest ideals and values of civility, equity, inclusion, understanding, and respect for all.” President Glassman wrote, “Words, actions, and attitudes matter. As President of Eastern Illinois University, I have a platform that affords me a unique public voice – and one that I am compelled to use to strongly denounce all forms of bigotry, racism, needless violence, and acts of intolerance. With that same voice, I want to publicly share my deepest support for our African American community. It is my sincere hope that by working together in the broadest spirit of love and unity, we are able to build a future where social injustice finds no home in our diverse, dynamic society.”
EIU’s Health and Counseling Services stand side-by-side with President Glassman in this commitment. We are keenly aware of the impact of recent and historical tragedies and injustices on our students. We grieve with those who are grieving and hurt with those who are hurting. We also recognize that continual exposure to current events – though important for increasing awareness and understanding – can be re-traumatizing and triggering for some. Please know that it is normal, understandable, and valid to experience a variety of emotional responses. We encourage those who are struggling and hurting to seek safe, supportive spaces to process their feelings and experiences. Please remember that we are here as a resource for students. We are eager to share further information regarding our Counseling Clinic’s services; we can also assist students with a referral to counseling services closer to their home. We stand with President Glassman in fostering a climate that is safe and affirming for all students on our campus and within our community.
