CHHS Hanner Teaching Excellence Award

Spring 2021: Linda Simpson - Human Services and Community Leadership

linda.simpson

Dr. Linda Simpson is the 2021 recipient of the CHHS Hanner Teaching Excellence Award. She has been a faculty member at EIU since 1997. Her subject matter expertise is in the areas of consumer studies, family resource management, and financial literacy. Her nominators highlighted Ms. Simpson’s dedication to students, stating:

Her willingness to…make it possible for students to have the learning materials readily available to them, to excel in their studies, and reach their full potential as learners, demonstrates her commitment to improved student outcomes. She is enthusiastic when brainstorming ideas to enhance student engagement, passionate about the curriculum of the program she coordinates, and a strong advocate for student success”.

While the public event to celebrate outstanding achievements and milestones in the College has been postponed by necessity, the CHHS community congratulates Ms. Linda Simpson in virtual space as the recipient of the 2021 CHHS Hanner Teaching Excellence Award, and thanks her for setting a great example of instructor excellence.

CHHS is also grateful to Dr. Mary Anne Hanner and her husband Dale Hanner for their continuing support of the mission of EIU, and the members of the AY20-21 CHHS Scholarship and Achievement Committee (chaired by Dr. Heidi Ramrattan, Communication Disorders and Sciences) for their excellent selection.

About the Hanner Teaching Excellence Award

Established in the College of Health and Human Services during the 2019-2020 academic year, the Hanner Teaching Excellence Award celebrates and honors consistent excellence in teaching. Nominees must be full-time faculty (tenured, tenure-track, or annually contracted faculty) with at least three consecutive academic years of employment at Eastern Illinois University, and who have not received the award previously. The CHHS Scholarship and Achievement Committee, with faculty representation from each academic unit in the college, reviews each nomination and forwards a recommendation to the Dean’s Office for consideration.

The award is made possible through the generous support of Dr. Mary Anne Hanner, former Dean of the College of Sciences, and her husband, Dale Hanner.
