26 Apr 2021 k.brown Dr. Kristin Brown - Department of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation - received EIU's International Faculty Member of the Year award at the 2021 International Education Awards Ceremony. Dr. Brown is a fantastic supporter of international education and has served as the International Education Committee Chair this past year, supporting new ideas for international education and study abroad.
23 Apr 2021 clapp Dr. Richard Clapp - Gail & Richard Lumpkin School of Nursing - was awarded the Maryanne Roehm Award by the Lambda Sigma Board at the 2021 Lambda Sigma Research Conference where he was also a presenter. Dr. Clapp has exhibited the highest standards and values of the Nursing profession during his service in a variety of clinical settings in both the civilian and military health care systems. Dr. Clapp was recently deployed in April-May 2020 to New York City as part of the Navy Medical Support Team COVID Response “Operation Gotham” and spent 8 weeks serving in a public hospital on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. 
03 Apr 2021 simpson  Dr. Linda Simpson - Department of Human Services and Community Leadership - was awarded the 2021 CHHS Hanner Teaching Excellence Award for her commitment to superior teaching and mentoring during her distinguished career at EIU. Dr. Simpson's longstanding passion for preparing students to be financially literate citizens and professionals is greatly needed and appreciated!
24 Mar 2021 simons  Dr. Sheila Simons - Department of Public Health - was awarded the 2021 EIU Woman of Distinction Award by the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program for her outstanding achievements during the academic year. Award recipients meet a variety of criteria including contributions to women's resource organizations and advocacy of the efforts to promote equity for women.  Dr. Simons was nominated by both Dr. Barbara Bonnekessen, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Julie Dietz, Chair of the Department of Public Health.

04 Jan 2021 KO  Dr. Kathleen O'Rourke - Department of Human Services and Community Leadership - was elected Board of Directors President of SACIS (Sexual Assault Counseling and Information) serving Illinois Coles, Cumberland, and Clark counties. SACIS provides counseling, advocacy, and support for all victims of sexual assault and their significant others. The organization is committed to changing attitudes that foster violence against others.
10 Nov 2020 s.s  Dr. Sheila Simons - Department of Public Health - was awarded the 2020 Dr. Luis Clay Mendez Service Award, the highest award for service on EIU campus. She has been very active on the EIU GSD (Gender and Sexual Diversity) Advisory committee and also works with SACIS (Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Services). During the COVID-19 pandemic she has delivered information to the public and university community through presentations and papers, and spearheaded contract tracing on campus.
01 Nov 2020 Burns  Dr. Melanie Burns - Nutrition and Dietetics Program - was awarded an EIU Achievement and Contribution Award in the 'Balanced' category. The award recognizes Melanie's outstanding contributions to the university during the 2019-2020 academic year.
01 Nov 2020 lauri  Dr. Lauri DeRuiter-Willems - Department of Public Health - was awarded an EIU Achievement and Contribution Award in the category of 'Service'. The award recognizes Lauri's outstanding contributions to the university during the 2019-2020 academic year. 
29 Oct 2020 hillier  Dr. Nikki HillierDepartment of Public Health - was awarded a Student Impact Grant for Faculty Mentors from the EIU Graduate School for AY 20-21. Funds will be used to support a project with Lifespan Center designed to provide safe social interaction for older individuals during the unprecedented times of COVID-19, and the related need for physical distancing.
