In Spring 2011, Faculty Development conducted a series of talk-backs with each of the academic colleges at EIU, and one recurring theme was the demand for just-in-time teaching and learning resources and a best practices repository. Additionally, faculty requested an online space for shared resources that could be easily accessed at any time.
Eastern Illinois University now has a campus-wide site license and one-year subscription to Magna Commons, an online faculty development resource which provides on-demand professional development for faculty development, just-in-time teaching and learning, group meetings and discussion groups.
Magna Commons offers a wide variety of full-length online seminars with new titles added monthly, addressing critical issues facing faculty today, including grading and feedback, student engagement, online teaching and learning, etc. These programs feature leading educators and consultants delivering thought-provoking, content-rich presentations. The subscription also includes supplemental materials custom-designed to help faculty implement strategies, handouts, in-depth facilitator's discussion guides and complete transcripts of each program. To access this resource, please contact the Faculty Development office at 581-7051 or at email@example.com. Sign-up instructions will be provided.
