About our Programs

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers three undergraduate degrees and one graduate degree. We also offer minors in all of our programs. Details for each of our majors follows below.

Computer Science
Computer Science is the study of computation and primarily deals with software systems, including their theory, design, development, and application.

The B.S. in Computer Science explores all aspects of computer science including programming, artificial intelligence, and database design. Major courses culminate in an extensive internship. The program offers tremendous exposure to problem-solving using computers and provides graduates with the tools and experiences necessary to enter a variety of fields, business, or continue to graduate school.

Mathematics
The B.A. in Mathematics offers a comprehensive program designed to enable students to enjoy mathematics, engage in research, pursue advanced studies, or enter the field in any number of settings. Coursework features a broad range of experiences balanced across both theoretical and applied fields. There are additional opportunities for a variety of interests. 

Career opportunities for mathe

matics majors offer some obvious choices- aerospace engineering, biometrician, budget analysis, technical illustrator/writer, etc. But there are thousands of other opportunities that may not be as obvious- appraiser, financial planner, information scientist, stock broker, to name just a few.

Mathematics for Teacher Licensure

Eastern has a long tradition and is known throughout the state for excellence in the education of future teachers.

The B.A. in Mathematics for Teacher Licensure degree prepares you for a career in secondary education. This program builds on strong components of mathematics and mathematics education all taught in our department. The program includes field experiences, methods courses, and student teaching. You will learn essential mathematics and effective teaching pedagogy which will enable you to enter one of the highest in demand fields.
