M.A. in Mathematics

We offer three options for graduate study covering a spectrum of opportunities from pure mathematics to mathematics education.

The MA in Mathematics provides a solid background in basic graduate-level mathematics. It prepares students for advanced graduate study, post-secondary teaching, or work in industry or government.

Our graduates have been very successful in obtaining teaching jobs at community colleges or by following our program with a Ph.D. Elective courses allow specialized study in areas such as pure mathematics, applied mathematics and computer sciences.

Degree Options

Our program can prepare you for further mathematical study to move on to a Ph.D. program, teach at a community college, or to become a reflective practitioner in your field.

Flexible Curriculum

Building from a core set of courses, many course offerings are diverse and vary based on your interests. Some options will engage you in action research, while others can immerse you in a thesis experience.

Programs

Mathematics

The major in mathematics provides a solid background in basic graduate-level mathematics. It prepares students for advanced graduate study, post-secondary teaching, or work in industry or government. Mathematics (Elementary/Middle School Mathematics Education Option)

The Option in Elementary/Middle School Mathematics Education, a predominantly summer program, strengthens the professional preparation of early childhood, elementary, and middle school teachers. The program is designed to prepare students for supervision of curriculum and instruction in elementary and middle school mathematics, for more advanced graduate study in the field, and for the role of a master teacher and curriculum specialists of mathematics in Pre-K-8. Mathematics (Secondary Mathematics Education Option)

The Option in Secondary Mathematics Education, a predominantly summer program, strengthens the professional preparation of junior and senior high school teachers. Special courses required by the option allow students to share their experiences and to revitalize their teaching methods. Click here for more information on this program.
