• Dr. Eckert’s edition of four Violin Concertos by Joseph Riepel with introduction, critical notes, and a translation of Riepel’s 1754 preface will be published later this year by A-R Editions, Inc.
• Instructor Jeremy McBain has advanced to doctoral candidacy and will be presenting his thesis, "The Role of the Cornet à Pistons in the Symphonic Works of Hector Berlioz," at UIUC this spring.
• Director of the Panther Marching Band and Wind Symphony Mr. Sullivan is currently an adjudicator for Drum Corps International, and recently served as conductor for the Nevada Small School All State Band.
• In 2011 Jemmie Robertson performed as Principal Trombone with the Santo Domingo Festival in the Dominican Republic and returned for his 11th season as a trombonist with the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra.
• Dr. Magie Smith has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clarinet.

Department News

ICMEA State Conference
The EIU chapter of ICMEA was elected to be the 2012 and 2013 "State Host Chapter" at the January ICMEA general meeting. EIU was one of three chapters nominated to run for state host chapter for the organization, beating out chapters from DePaul and Augustana.

Congratulations to all of the student members of ICMEA, to EIU Chapter president Julie Martin who made a great presentation and to Danelle Larson, the faculty sponsor for the organization. You have represented the department with distinction.

Auditioning Students - To be accepted as a music major or minor, you must:

     (1) complete an application for admission to the University,

     (2) complete the Audition & Scholarship Application,

     (3) have two Student Applicant Recommendation Forms on file, and

     (4) successfully complete a performance audition.
