Applications
An application does not guarantee an assignment. Assignments are made on the basis of the date of application. For married applicants we must have on file a certified copy of your marriage certificate in the Housing Office before you receive an assignment. Applications from students with families and single graduate students are assigned apartments based on a waiting list by housing security deposit date. Student families include married couples and domestic partners where at least one member of the family is a student at Eastern Illinois University, and single-parent families. Applications from single parents will be considered only if the child or children will be living in the University Apartments.
Applicants with Families
Married applicants must prove their eligibility for an apartment by providing the Office of University Housing and Dining Services with a certified copy of their marriage license. For applicants with domestic partners, we must have a completed domestic partner agreement on file before you receive an assignment. In the case of single parents, a certified copy of the child's birth certificate will be required.
Same Sex Roommates
Same sex roommates, who are also single graduate students, will be allowed if prior approval is received from the Office of University Housing & Dining Services. The Office of University Housing & Dining Services will not assign roommates. Summer Living Residents who are living in the University Apartments in the Spring semester and have pre-enrolled for the Fall semester are not required to be enrolled for summer sessions.
Pets
Pets are not allowed in the apartments for obvious health and sanitation reasons.
Parking
Several lots are located adjacent to the apartment buildings. A parking permit is required to park in these lots. These can be purchased from the University Police Department when you arrive on campus.
Schools and Day Care
The University Apartments are on the school bus route for the Charleston Public School system. The Charleston Community Day Care Center is located next door to the University Apartments. Although not affiliated with the university, the Day Care Center accepts many University Apartment children.
Partially Furnished Apartments
The 64 partially furnished one-bedroom apartments are both carpeted and air conditioned. They have thermopane windows, drapes, individual air conditioning and carpeting. The furnishings include free standing refrigerators and gas ranges, plus a dining room set, regular double bed. While basic furniture is supplied, some space is allowed for students to use their own furnishings such as sofas, chest of drawers, lamps, etc. These apartments are usually referred to as the 2-room partially furnished apartments or the 2-story apartments.
Furnished One-Bedroom Apartments
These apartments have, in the past, been the most popular, especially among families with children. They are fully furnished and air conditioned and are located convenient to parking, playground facilities and the laundry rooms. They are not carpeted. These apartments are generally referred to as the 2-room furnished apartments.
