The Simple Steps to Becoming EIU

Whether you are interested in earning the full English master’s degree, pursuing the Online Graduate Certificate in the Teaching of Writing, or completing professional development credits, you must first apply for graduate admission by completing Step One.

Before you begin, please note that all applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 2.75 or higher GPA for full admission.

International students: please see the graduate admission checklist before proceeding.

Step One. Start your application for admission.

• Open a MyEIU account to begin the application process
• Pay a one-time $30 application fee
• Submit a copy of your official undergraduate transcript, either electronically or by mail to:

Step Two. Complete your application by choosing your path from the options below:

• Master’s Degree in English
• Master’s Degree in English (with a competitively awarded Graduate Assistantship)
• Online Graduate Certificate in the Teaching of Writing
• Accelerated Graduate Program in English (for EIU undergraduates only; start with this online form and talk with the Graduate Coordinator)
• Non-degree Seeking (for earning professional development credits)
