Your success at Eastern Illinois University is determined not only by the quality of your academic work, but also by how quickly you connect to the campus. EIU requires you to participate in orientation and transition programs to assist you in your transition. These programs are part of our two-part process to becoming an official EIU student.
Coming to college opens a new chapter in your life. The transition from high school to the university setting is an exciting time filled with a myriad of opportunities. This transition also raises a number of questions and concerns regarding your first year here at Eastern Illinois University. We promise your orientation day will provide you with more than a class schedule; it will prepare and excite you for your first year at EIU.
Registering for a program
Once you have paid your New Student Enrollment Deposit of $150, you can sign up for an orientation date through myEIU. Freshman students will be e-mailed an invitation to the program. The invitation will contain a program reservation link to myEIU. Students will need to complete the reservation form online to secure a program date.
Students entering Spring 2021 will attend the program on Friday, January 8, 2021. (Registration opens early-October)
We have designed an online orientation experience that will ensure a successful transition to EIU. You will log into D2L, our learner management system, to find the orientation and checklists for each phase.
The online orientation will be broken into 5 phases:
Phase 1: In this phase, you will make sure you can log into the web based portals like D2L, PantherMail, and PAWS. Your NetID and Password can be found in your MyEIU checklist. This phase can be completed at any time, but must be completed prior to your scheduled orientation date.
Phase 2: In this phase, you will begin preparing for your academic advising appointment, which will occur on your orientation date via Zoom. You will review the materials on D2L in the Phase 2 folder prior to your scheduled orientation date. This phase can be completed at any time, but must be completed prior to your scheduled orientation date.
Phase 3: This phase is your orientation date! You will attend a virtual orientation via Zoom. A detailed schedule will be emailed to you prior to your orientation date.
If you are unsure of the date you selected, you can log into your MyEIU account and look under the Orientation/Transition box to see your scheduled orientation date.
Zoom is a free virtual video platform that will allow you to participate in the virtual orientation. If you are able, we recommend that you download Zoom prior to your orientation date.
Phase 4: This phase will allow you to learn about the wide variety of resources that we have available to students during their time at Eastern Illinois University. This includes information about Health and Counseling Services, getting your Panther Card, how you can get involved, and so much more. This phase can be completed anytime prior to July 31, but we recommend students complete during their wait time on their orientation day.
Phase 5: In this phase, you will participate in the on-campus programming during the weekend of move-in. This weekend will give you the chance to get connected to EIU, your peers, and faculty and staff. It will allow you to explore campus, engage in education and social activities, and get a foundation for personal and academic success. You can learn more about Prowl in the Phase 5 folder of D2L or by clicking here.
