Safety Reminder for Driving in Proximity to Public School Busses on EIU's Campus
A reminder to our campus community:
Per Illinois law, all drivers must stop at least 20 feet away from a school bus when its red warning lights flash and its stop arm is extended. Drivers must remain stopped until the stop arm retracts, the red lights turn off, and the bus moves. Vehicles are not to pass stopped school busses on 7th Street when they are stopped and have their stop arms out. We have experienced vehicles passing the busses as they are dropping off and picking up children in the mornings and throughout the day. Please consider the safety of our entire EIU campus community and obey all traffic laws while on EIU property.
