EIU Choral Ensembles -- Informational Meeting August 26; Audition Times Available

EIU has several Choral Ensembles available through the courses in the School of Music. There is an informational meeting on Wednesday, August 26 at 1 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Doudna Fine Arts Center.

If you would like to enroll in a choral ensemble, please get in touch with Dr. Howard Eckdahl (heckdahl@eiu.edu) and do the following:

  1. Fill out the Choral Form (general info about anyone auditioning that the ensamble needs)
  2. Sign up for a Choral Placement (sign up for a time to sing at a future audition*)
*Please know that the choral placement is not meant to be intimidating. It consists of warming up with the piano to ascertain range and intonation, some pitch memory tests (played notes on the piano that are sung back), and some low-pressure sight reading.
For all of the choirs, each singer must be able to match pitch or "sing on key," which is a baseline prerequisite to ensure everyone's success.

Please know that all of the choirs have mandatory attendance throughout the semester and are graded courses in the School of Music.

Interested participants can see pictures and learn more about what Choir at EIU is like here.

Thank you,

Dr. Howard Eckdahl, Assistant Professor & Director of Choral Activities
