Prospective Students FAQs

What concentrations or options are available at EIU Business School?

We offer four MBA options: Applied Management, Accountancy, Research, and GIS. For detailed information about each option, please visit the "MBA Options" section on our website: https://www.eiu.edu/mba.

Are senior undergraduate students eligible to enroll in MBA-level courses?

Yes, senior undergraduate students who have completed at least 90 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher may apply to take graduate-level courses for a Reserve Graduate Credit.

Reserve Graduate Credits do not count toward undergraduate degree requirements.

Applications must be approved by the add-course deadline and signed by the course instructor, undergraduate advisor, Graduate School Dean, and, if needed, the Graduate Coordinator.

The application form can be found here.

Is there an application fee waiver available for the MBA program at EIU?

No, there is no standard application fee waiver. However, since this is a decision made by the EIU Board of Trustees, they occasionally offer fee waivers at specific times throughout the year.

Since these waivers are not guaranteed or scheduled in advance, we cannot provide a definite answer on when they will be available. However, the application system will automatically reflect any active waivers.

  • If you are directed to a payment page, this means the waiver is not currently available.
  • If you do not see a payment page, it means the application fee has been waived at that time.

For the most up-to-date information, we recommend checking the application portal or contacting the admissions office directly.

How do I defer my admission?

Currently, EIU no longer defer applications/admissions. Applicants who are unable to resume for the admitted term are required to submit new applications to the next available term.

How do I change my application? (Major, semester etc.)

You can change your application by completing this form:

How much are the tuition, student fees, and cost of living at EIU?

Are there any financial aid or scholarship opportunities available for MBA students at EIU?

Please note that the MBA program does not offer financial aid packages for admission. Additionally, due to university policies, international students are not eligible for financial aid. However, there are various scholarship opportunities available. You can find details on application procedures and eligibility criteria on our scholarship page.

Additionally, you may explore on-campus part-time job opportunities within the university here.

Admitted & Current Students FAQs

What is an E-number?

An E-number is a unique identifier assigned to you upon your application to Eastern Illinois University. You can find this on your MyEIU portal.

Where can I view MBA courses offered each semester?

You can view MBA courses offered each semester by using the on-campus course schedule. View the video below to access an in-depth tutorial that walks you through how to navigate and search for MBA classes.

If you need to enroll in a class that is full, please contact Dr. Chahyadi, the graduate coordinator, for assistance.

How do I apply for graduation?

Students must apply for graduation through PAWS. The application link is found under your Student tab in PAWS. You will select the term of your graduation, provide the address for your diploma and tell us exactly how you would like your name to appear. There will be a one-time charge of $40 per degree.

Can I participate in commencement before completing all of my MBA course requirements?

Commencement by Exceptionality allows graduate students to participate in a commencement ceremony either after the term in which they graduate or—under certain circumstances—before completing their degree requirements.

For example, a student who completes their degree requirements in the fall semester but is unable to attend the fall commencement ceremony may be permitted to participate in the spring ceremony. Similarly, students completing their graduate requirements in the summer, such as a thesis, internship, or practicum, may be granted permission to participate in the preceding spring commencement.

Graduate Assistantship Faqs

How can I apply for a Graduate Assistantship (GA) position in the MBA program? What are the eligibility criteria?

Only MBA students are eligible to apply for a GA position in the MBA program. MBA students who are interested in applying for a GA position must have completed their first semester in the MBA program, which means that an incoming MBA student is NOT eligible for a Graduate Assistantship.

Factors that influence selection for a GA position include undergraduate/graduate academic record, GMAT/GRE or other test scores, professional work experience, references, personal qualities and background, statement of goals, and MBA program need.

GA positions at EIU are typically awarded for a period of nine (9) months and usually begin in the fall semester. It's important to understand that securing a GA for one semester or year does not guarantee that your GA will be renewed for the following academic semester or year.

MBA graduate assistantship positions are competitive, with approximately 10-15% of MBA students being awarded a position. The GA positions are awarded based on applicants' GPA in their first semester and their on-campus activities.

To learn more about the eligibility criteria for graduate assistantships, please visit our website: https://www.eiu.edu/mba/Graduate_Assistantship.php and review the "Apply to be a Graduate Assistant" section. You can also explore the "Benefits of a Graduate Assistantship" section to understand the advantages of holding a graduate assistantship.

As an admitted MBA student, can I apply for a Graduate Assistantship in other departments at EIU? What are the eligibility criteria?

Yes. The general principles, procedures, tasks, and benefits of Graduate Assistantships (GAs) are the same across all departments at EIU. However, each department may have specific eligibility criteria based on their needs and requirements. As an admitted MBA student, you may be eligible to apply for GA positions in other departments as well. For a comprehensive list of departments offering GA positions, visit our website under the main menu "Costs & Financial Assistance" and the sub-menu "Discover More": EIU MBA - Discover More. Be sure to explore these opportunities and check departmental webpages for specific requirements.
