The MBA with Accountancy Concentration at Eastern Illinois University is designed for students who want advanced accounting knowledge along with the broader business, leadership and decision-making skills of an MBA.
This concentration prepares students for careers in public accounting, corporate accounting, government accounting, auditing, taxation, financial reporting and business leadership. It is also designed to help students meet the educational requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accountant, CPA, examination.

Curriculum Requirements
The MBA with Accountancy Concentration requires 11 courses, totaling 33 credit hours.
Students may also need to complete prerequisite coursework depending on their academic background.

MBA Core Courses
Students complete six core courses that provide a foundation in key areas of business:
- MBA 5500: Quantitative Modeling
- MBA 5550: Marketing Management
- MBA 5640: Financial Management
- MBA 5660: Operations Management
- MBA 5670: Management of Information Systems
- MBA 5680: Organizational Behavior & Group Dynamics
Accountancy Required Courses
Students complete four required courses focused on accounting, auditing, business law and applied business decision-making:
- MBA 5900: Management Simulation
- ACC 5200: Financial Accounting Standards
- ACC 5400: Advanced Auditing & Assurance Services
- MBA 5450: Legal & Regulatory Environment of Business
Elective Course
Students complete one approved elective course. Approved electives may include:
- ACC 5000: Fraud Examination
- ACC 5100: Special Topics in Accounting
- ACC 5300: Strategic Cost Management**

- ACC 5700: Seminar on Challenges in Accounting
Other elective courses must be in business or a related subject and must be approved by the MBA coordinator before the course is taken. To be eligible for graduate credit, courses must be numbered 4750 or higher.

Prerequisite Notes
Prerequisite for all 4000-level ACC courses: students must have a cumulative EIU GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Students are strongly encouraged to take ACC 3200 concurrently with ACC 3300 and to take ACC 3250 concurrently with ACC 3900.
Tentative Accountancy MBA Schedule
The Accountancy Concentration can be completed in an in-person or hybrid format. A tentative three-semester schedule is available to help students understand what the program may look like based on start term, course availability and program requirements. The schedule is provided for reference only and does not need to be followed exactly. Students should work with their academic advisor and graduate coordinator to develop an individualized plan.
