EIU Exercise Science

KSR Student Ambassador Program

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who represent the Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Department in a variety of on and off-campus recruitment and retention efforts. Selected Ambassadors are expected to participate in the program for two full semesters. Under the guidance of the department chair, Ambassadors have the opportunity to participate in EIU open house events, college visit days and regional university recruitment fairs. KSR Club (Exercise Science Club)

The KSR Club is a registered student organization open to all students in the major concentration areas of: Exercise Science, Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE), and Sports Management. The club meets 3 times during the fall and spring semesters. The club has professional meetings as well as social events. Each major concentration area may meet more times per semester as determined by each of the separate groups. Click here to visit the KSR Club website.


As a student within the Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Department, you are eligible for a number of Exercise Science specific scholarships at Eastern Illinois University. The application period is in early Spring of each year. Scholarships are awarded each year at the Annual Awards Banquet in April. Every year the Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Department awards more than 14 scholarships to our wonderful students. To learn more about the available scholarships or to apply, please click here

Academic Advising

Students in the Department of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation should meet with their academic advisor each semester.  This provides guidance in selecting the courses required toward graduation and is how you obtain your alternate pin number to be eligible to register.  The academic advisor for exercise science students is :

The Department of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation believes in combining classroom knowledge with experiential learning. As part of the exercise science curriculum, all students will be required to complete an internship, which may vary on credit requirement. Students are encouraged to choose an internship site that would add to their educational experience. For more information regarding internships, please visit our Internship page.


Graduate Assistantships: Undergraduates interested in pursuing a Master's Degree are encouraged to apply for a graduate assistantship during the Fall semester of their Senior year. The graduate program in Exercise Science awards seven competitive assistantships, beginning each fall, for a period of nine months. Exercise Science GA's will gain extensive experience working closely with the EIU Adult Fitness Program, teaching undergraduate activity courses, and supervising undergraduate students in the Assessment Testing and Prescription Laboratory.
