"Everything from the inspirational faculty to the refreshing, creative space and tools of Doudna Fine Arts Center has allowed me to start and progress my career in graphic design."
—Adam Limanowski, Art Director at LLT-Group,

"Coming to Eastern as an adult re-entry student was one of the best decisions I ever made. Eastern made it easy for me to transfer my credits from my first university and gave me a clear path for me to earn a degree. My professors were design professionals who were able to impart what they had learned from hands-on experience. They directly prepared me to be in the graphic design field so there were no surprises when I went out into my first design job. Going to the Doudna building everyday was inspirational as well. I have fond memories of my time at Eastern and what I learned while there has been invaluable."

The BFA in Art – Graphic Design Option (graphic design major) allows students to grow creatively while developing advanced technical skills in contemporary visual communication. Through hands-on creative exploration in print, web design, motion graphics, animation, video, photography, and typography, students develop professional skillls and create a comprehensive visual portfolio in contemporary media that prepares them for direct entry into visual communications/graphic design positions upon graduation.
We are pleased to announce that our new BA in Graphic Design will be offered in Fall 2018, making it much easier for students to transfer directly into the graphic design program.
See current BFA curriculum models below.
Visit BLUEROOM Magazine, our student-operated and produced publication and student organization at EIU • Blue Room provides an exclusive experience to anyone who joins by giving a hands-on approach to real-life situations and problems seen in the field. Students have the ability to craft and participate in jobs needed such as designers, photographers, editors, journalists, and writers.
At the end of the sophomore year, students submit a portfolio of foundational coursework and application. Admittance is evaluated on completion of required pre-Graphic Design coursework, quality of portfolio, and GPA. If you have any questions about the Graphic Design program, admissions process, or if you are a transfer student and would like assistance in any way, please email Dave Richardson, Associate Professor in Graphic Design, at email@example.com. We are happy to respond to any question you might have, and we look forward to having you in the program.
