Our remarkable Doudna Fine Arts Center is a state-of-the-art facility, providing dedicated, creative space for aspiring artists to receive a top-rated visual arts education. Coupled with our passionate and knowledgeable faculty members, our students are guaranteed a rigorous, contemporary education in the arts that will provide them with a lifetime of enrichment and inspiration. I could not be more excited to serve the students and faculty of this department and I hope that you will not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need assistance. The Department of Art & Design's primary mission is to meet the instructional needs of our students by placing an emphasis on developing within each student a sense of visual awareness, self-discipline, an analytical approach toward the creative process, an awareness of historical issues, and a commitment to craftsmanship. Carefully structured degree programs provide each student with the maximum opportunity for personal development and professional growth.
The Department of Art & Design offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in art and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in art. The BFA degree options are art education, graphic design, and studio (two-dimensional emphasis and three-dimensional emphasis). The BA degree options are art history and studio (two-dimensional emphasis and three-dimensional emphasis). A newly revised BA in Graphic Design is going to be released the 2017-18 school year that will be more transfer efficient. We are also pleased to have the new Graphic Design Minor currently on the books for all EIU students to enjoy. For more information about each option use the left side column menu under "Programs" and click on the degree program you are interested in.
Sincerely - Chris Kahler
