Graduate Assistantships
The Office of Accessibility and Accommodations typically offers one graduate assistantship each year to competitive applicants. Graduate assistantship offers are made during the spring semester.
about the position
The graduate assistant for the OAA acts as an Access Coach providing support to students registered for accommodations or those in the process of applying.
Responsibilities

Conduct intake interviews with students requesting accommodations using a strengths-based consultation approach to determine barriers to equal access -
Educate students on the differences in disability law and services in K-12 vs Higher Education -
Utilize problem solving skills to provide coaching support to students regarding skills development in areas such as note taking, study skills, planning and organization, time management, assistive technology, and self-advocacy -
Assist with outreach to the campus and surrounding communities -
Assist with special projects as needed -
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and acceptance into an EIU graduate program is required. -
Experience working with individuals with disabilities is required. -
Familiarity with disability law and services is preferred. -
Enrollment in a program related to disability services and/or education is preferred.
Stipend
$1,100 per month including tuition wavier. Students are responsible for university’s general fees each semester.
Timeline
Graduate students interested in a GA position with the OAA should submit a resume and cover letter prior to March 1st. Application review and interview dates sometimes vary, but offers are typically made around spring break. Applications submitted after March 1st will not be considered.
