Turnitin @EIU: Purpose and Philosophy

Eastern Illinois University acknowledges the use of Turnitin as a learning and evaluation tool. The goal is provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully and properly cite references while composing original and authentic written works for classes and professional publications.

About

Turnitin is a tool for both faculty and students to enhance the writing process. Created from the collective efforts of researchers, teachers, mathematicians, and computer scientists at UC Berkeley, the Turnitin program has helped with the detection of improperly cited written works using an internet-based electronic service. This tool assists both undergraduate and graduate students in creating authentic and original written works. The tool also helps educators instruct students how to properly cite and reference resources used in the creation of their written works.
