EIU to offer free digital/online job-seeking skills workshops at regional libraries

(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University will offer a series of digital/online job-seeking skills workshops at regional libraries, thanks to a grant from the Illinois State Library intended to present training on topics such as determining participants’ job-related skills, basic resume development, how and where to find jobs, job search correspondence, and interview preparation. EIU’s Booth Library, College of Education, and Career Services are partnering on the grant. Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

The workshops will take place at the Charleston, Effingham, Greenup, Mattoon and Sullivan public libraries at various days and times, unique to each library. Pre-registration is encouraged at each location.

The Charleston Carnegie Public Library, located at 712 Sixth Street in Charleston, will host the workshops from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays from August 17 through September 28. Interested participants can contact Library Director Chris Houchens at (217) 345-4913 or chris@charlestonlibrary.org.

The Effingham Public Library, located at 200 N. Third Street in Effingham, will host the workshops from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Workman Room on Thursdays from August 17 through September 29. Interested participants can contact Library Director Amanda McKay at (217) 342-2464 or amanda@effinghamlibrary.org.

The Greenup Township Public Library, located at 101 North Franklin Street in Greenup, will host the workshops from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays from June 20 through August 8 (except for July 4). Interested participants can contact Debra Scherrick at (217) 923-3616 or greenuptownshiplibrary@gmail.com.

The Mattoon Public Library, located at 1600 Charleston Avenue in Mattoon, will host the workshops from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from June 25 through August 27. Interested participants can contact Library Director Carl Walworth at (217) 234-2621 or carl@mattoonlibrary.org.

The Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library, located at 2 West Water Street in Sullivan, will host the workshops from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from June 22 through August 3. Interested participants can contact Library Director Michelle Nolen at (217) 728-7221 or etmldirector@gmail.com.

The workshop presenters will be Bobbi Kingery, master career counselor and director of Career Services at Eastern Illinois University, and John Marr, employee relations specialist/career advisor at Eastern Illinois University.
