EIU’s Academy of Lifelong Learning to host “The Power of Non-Violent Struggle for Social Change”

(Charleston, IL) – The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Eastern Illinois University will host Henry Cervantes, with the group Illinois Humanities, to speak about the history of social movements to win human rights, political, freedoms and social justice.

The event will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, October 22 at the Carnegie Public Library in Charleston. Cervantes, an artist and educator from Chicago, will discuss the importance behind social movements throughout history and how these movements have tapped into the creative power of nonviolence.

The Academy of Lifelong Learning invites everyone who is interested to join the presentation and explore creative and powerful ways to build community through nonviolence. The event is free and open to the public. Due to limited seating, guests are required to register by October 21 if they plan on attending.
