Sept. 18 and 19 outings to explore Warbler Ridge
(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University’s Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) will host two events that will explore Warbler Ridge Conservation Area with the non-profit conservation organization known as Grand Prairie Friends (GPF) from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18 and again from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 19.
On September 18, participants will meet in Rotary Room B of the Charleston Carnegie Public Library, located at 712 6th Street to hear from GPF Board Member Fred Delcomyn, who will share information about the Warbler Ridge Conservation Area. Attendees will be able to see Delcomyn’s photography to learn about the various sites within Warbler Ridge. These photos will show the living creatures in Warbler Ridge, both plants and animals alike, illustrating the beauty of the land that has grown to 1,000 acres, including restored wetlands and trails for visitors.
Then, on September 19, attendees will get to visit the Warbler Ridge Conservation Area, located at 17161 Daileyville Road in Charleston, to meet Sarah Livesay, GPF’s Executive Director and Certified Interpretive Guide. While being led on a guided walk throughout the conservation area, Delcomyn will be with the group to help attendees with tips on taking photos of the surrounding natural scenery. The Academy advises those who wish to attend to wear outdoor shoes and clothing, and to be prepared for at least one hour of moderate walking.
Both of these events are free and open to the public. While these events can be attended by anyone, the Academy does request that those who are interested register ahead of time by calling (217) 581-5114.
